Green Statement

At Field Cottage in the heart of the Wye Valley, Herefordshire, we are committed to preserving the natural beauty of our surroundings and providing a sustainable and eco-friendly holiday experience for our guests. We believe that responsible tourism can coexist harmoniously with the environment, and we strive to make a positive impact on the world through our actions.

Here’s our green statement:

  1. Natural Beauty Preservation: Field Cottage is nestled amidst the stunning landscape of the Wye Valley, and we are dedicated to maintaining its pristine beauty. We actively support local conservation groups in their efforts to protect the flora and fauna that make this region so special. We support the campaigns by the Save The Wye Coalition & Herefordshire Wildlife Trust and have signed the Recue Our Rivers petition as we believe without a clean River Wye, then the beauty of the region could be spoiled beyond repair. We also plant 30 trees every month through Carbon Neutral Britain and are a certified carbon neutral business.
  2. Website Hosting: We use green web hosting from Hostinger with our website producing less carbon emmissions that most tested by the Website Carbon Calculator.
  3. Energy Efficiency: We have implemented energy-efficient measures throughout our property, including LED lighting, energy-saving appliances, and smart thermostats to reduce our carbon footprint. We have solar panels on our roof that power the building and allow us to sell some energy back to the national grid. We also have an electric car charging point installed. We have heat pump technology installed in our annex and hope in the next few years we can also upgrade the house to the same tech.
  4. Waste Reduction: We encourage guests to minimise waste by providing recycling and composting facilities. We also use eco-friendly cleaning products, and provide eco friendly washing powder, dishwasher tablets and soaps to reduce chemical pollution. We recycle everything possible and provide guests with the relevant bins for these. A food waste bin is also provided with a composter in the garden.
  5. Local Sourcing: We support the local economy by sourcing products and services from nearby businesses and farms, reducing transportation-related emissions and promoting the sustainability of the community. We love to showcase the food and drink from the area as part of sourcing locally.
  6. Water Conservation: We use energy efficient devices that consume water in terms of the dishwasher and washing machine. We encourage guests to be mindful of their water consumption during their stay.
  7. Transportation Alternatives: We promote eco-friendly transportation options, such as cycling and walking, to explore the beautiful surroundings of the Wye Valley. We also provide information on public transportation options to reduce car usage.
  8. Education and Engagement: We strive to educate our guests about the importance of sustainability and the local ecosystem, offering information on nearby nature reserves, hiking trails, and wildlife habitats.
  9. Wildlife Preservation: Field Cottage is home a variety of wildlife, and we take steps to protect their habitats. Bird feeders and wildlife-friendly landscaping enhance the natural experience for our guests.
  10. Reduced Single-Use Plastics: We have eliminated single-use plastics from our property and encourage guests to do the same by providing reusable alternatives. We have provided reusable water bottles so guests can take water with them when out and about, thus reducing the need to purchase further plastic bottles of drinks.
  11. Community Involvement: We support local community events and initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable practices in the Wye Valley, and we invite our guests to join in these efforts.

By choosing Field Cottage for your self-catering holiday, you not only get to enjoy the beauty of the Wye Valley but also contribute to the preservation of this natural wonder. We are committed to providing an eco-conscious and memorable experience for all our guests.
