A talk from Dylan Allman

Dylan Allman is 15 years old and a local Hedgehog Champion. At the age of 13 during the first lockdown, he discovered hedgehogs were visiting his garden, and wanted to know more about them. When he found their numbers had declined so dramatically that they are now vulnerable to extinction, he wanted to take action to help them, and this is his story…

Dylan gives an interactive talk about why hedgehog numbers have declined so much, and the simple things everyone can do to help reverse that decline to support one of the nations most loved mammals, not just to survive but thrive.  He shares footage from the night cameras in his garden, takes a look inside an Eco Hedgehog House, shows how to create a simple, safe feeding station, how to make gardens hedgehog friendly, and talks about the hedgehogs he’s rescued and released. There’s even a free booklet to take away full of top tips.

The success of Dylan’s ‘Be Hedgehog Aware’ campaign, focused on reducing the number of injuries and deaths to hedgehogs due to strimmer and mowing equipment, caught the attention of the BBC earlier this year when he appeared on The One Show. He has also been featured in the BBC Wildlife magazine, The Telegraph, and Radio One!
